CORRIVEAU'S BLAST CAPS OFF OPENER OVER PHILLIES
5/11/2018by Zack Timmermeyer

The Big Cat Andres Gallaraga came out of retirement Thursday night, this time lighter skin, 50 extra pounds, and a new name: Scott Corriveau. With the Electrical Solutions Braves chasing 4-3 in the top of the 5th, catcher Brandon Pesce knocked in Kyle "The guy that sold you a 180k mile car for $16,500 because you had bad credit" Hamel with an RBI single to tie it up at 4 a piece. In that inning, Tyler Babb (1-3, RBI), Jeff Keene (2-4, RBI, 2R), Corriveau, and Mike Muise (1-4, RBI) went back-to-back-to-back-to-back with RBI singles to plate 4 runs and take the lead 8-4. After plating another run in the 6th, Scott Corriveau stepped up with two men on in the 7th with one job to do: send it. With a confident mindset and a brand new rolled and shaved Worth EST COMP bat in hand, Corriveau absolutely LAUNCHED the Ricky "Aroldis Chapman" Pontes' 103 mph arched fastball over the right field fence and curved just around the foul poll for a 3-Run blast, his first of the season. STATCAST estimated the ball to travel a JUDGEian 237 ft. After the game, Corriveau stated, "I barely got that too, had I got a hold of it...it would have gone onto the street!" That would be an unfathomable feat as the ball would have had to travel at least 250 feet for it to happen. Maybe some day Scott.

For the Phillies, they got off to a hot start by scoring 4 runs in the first with a 2 run single by Mac "I barely swung" Delano, and RBI singles by Dougie "Can I interest you in a new 60" Samsung tv?" McGray and John "Its a proud year for Philly fans" Berry. Their offense would be quieted untl the 7th, where after a Greg "Hold my beer while I catch that fish" Labonte hit a double and eventually scored on an error by the Braves second baseman, making the score 12-5.

Corriveau went the distance on the mound, capturing his first W of the season, while Ricky Pontes suffered the first loss. Both pitchers hurled very well, but the Braves offense came out on top. Next week, the Braves (1-0) will have their first bye week, while the Phillies (0-1) will host the Rays (0-1) as they both seek redemption after week 1 losses.
