Theres rust, and then there is Titanic rust. Both teams came out putting the ball in play, but it was the Padres' first inning defense for the first time on the field as a team that allowed the Pirates to attack with 19 runs in the first two innings that made the difference. Capitalizing on 6 defensive errors, the Pirates came out hitting hard and put the ball in play to score 10 runs in the first and 9 in the second and never looked back. Led by OF Cam Bussiere (4-5, 2B, 2 HR (2), 5 RBI (5), 2 R), the Pirates saw every hitter in their lineup reach base and score at one point in the game. Kimo "Rico Suave" Suares capped off the batting order going 2-3 with two singles, one of which was hit so hard that it killed a player..whom will not be named until dental records can identify them and their families have been notified..yeah...that hard...guy's a machine. After Brandon Campbell's 2-Run double in the first, Dan "Still can't find my Torch but thats ok, I have 36 others" Cowing smoked a 4-base-award that scored both him and Campbell which seemed to be the spark in the Pirates' offense, leading to 8 straight players reaching either via error or hits. CF Alex "I'm might look 14, but I'm actually 15" Biron went 3-5 with a double and an RBI. The team put up 21 of their 24 runs in the first 3 innings and didnt do much after, which means, if you can put up 22 runs in the first three innings, you'll have a good chance of maybe beating them.
For the Padres, they were led by 3B Steve "Italian Stallion" Palleshi, who used all 7'2" of his frame to blast a 3-run homer in a 6-run first. Last year's AL All-Star 2B David Cusson was red-hot as he hit with what looked like an illegal 86" bat...but it was just an illusion, as it was just a regular 34" bat, but the Pirates couldn't stop him as he went a perfect 4-4 at the plate with 3 RBI and a stolen base. Also providing offense for the Padres was Chris "They call me...the Dymmer" Dymkoski who also was perfect at the dish with a 3-3 performance of his own.
Next week, the (1-0) Pirates will face off against the Rockies (1-0), while the Padres (0-1) look to take a W from the Red Sox (1-0)
